Business Trip

I’m heading off on a business trip today and really looking forward to some time alone in my off hours.  One thing I’m glad to carry with me is my portable altar.  It’s small and packs easily in my purse.

When you go on a road trip, do you continue doing rituals?  I find that it helps keep me centered and grounded if I do a quick ritual of appreciation to the Goddess and God before heading out of my hotel room and into a day of meetings.

Recently I wrote an article about what I carry in my portable altar.  You can find the article here.  You can find the mint tin I use to hold everything here.

Bright Blessings!

Passing – one year later

We’re coming up on the one year anniversary of a friend’s passing. It was an unexpected death – she was a healthy woman prior to that. I guess that’s why they call them accidents.

My friends and I are thinking about ways to celebrate and honor her. While I don’t know what happens after death, it feels to me like the one year mark is when the spirit really leaves this place and goes on to the next. Before that, there’s work that needs to be done, on both sides I think, to ensure a smooth transition. Now that a year has passed, I don’t miss her any less, but I do feel some comfort, finally, in her passing. There’s a feeling of a purpose to her dying when she did. It took a while for me to get to that place, maybe it’s been in the past month or two, but I am there. Our mutual friends are in varying places in acceptance. It’s a journey for each of us and I’m happy to have their support in going through this process.

What are you appreciative of today?

April (and it’s snowing)

I don’t know about you, but I am ready for spring! The snow on the south side of our house is melting, but we still have huge piles on the northern side. On the side of the driveway, where we’ve been dumping shovelful after shovelful of snow, the pile is well over six feet high!  It just started snowing again, and we’re supposed to get at least a foot of snow overnight.

Inside, I’m nice and cozy.  I’ve got a vase on my desk with a pink tulip and a sprig of flowering thyme.  They’re the remains of my ritual this morning to welcome spring.  It’s a continuing reminder to me that spring really is coming!

My ritual tomorrow morning might involve some snow melting in my cauldron. I haven’t planned it fully yet, I can see more sprigs of thyme rolled into a small snowball.  I’ll place it in my cauldron and let them melt together while I chant something like:

New Moon of the Goddess,
Each day you grow bigger.
Bringing warmth and flowers,
Bringing fresh air,
and the sounds of mating foxes in the yard.
Bringing bunny tracks in the snow.
Oh Goddess of the Spring!

Bright Blessings!

New Moon for health!

I’ve been sick all week, but today is the New Moon.  I know.  It’s the second one in March and as such has some magical qualities.  But honestly, my project for this moon cycle is to simply get healthy and stay healthy!  Today, my simple New Moon ritual is to light a candle and to visualize:

Until next time, bright blessings!

Simple Ostara Ritual with Sprigs of Thyme

This morning during my Ostara ritual I came to a realization.

This is really the beginning of a new year for me.  It’s the beginning of the first full year of my owning being a witch.  I’ve been playing around, learning a bit here and there, but not taking it completely seriously.  Now I know.

My ritual this morning was very simple.  In addition to my usual ritual, I added an offering of thyme flowers to each of the elements, thanking them for lending me their power for another day.  Simple.  The sprigs of thyme on the altar in a little vase are lovely to look at and will brighten my whole day.  (They’ll probably end up in the stew I’m making for dinner tonight, with thanks again!)

Thyme, Mint, Oregano

Thyme, Mint, Oregano

I can feel the energy of the earth coursing through me.  I can feel the energy of other beings in my presence.  I can command other beings to move on, even though I can’t see them, I feel their energy and know that they’ve been stuck; and they listen to me!  I am connected to Spirit in a way I never felt before.

Today, I recognized my new relationship with the Goddess, the God, and the Elements.  I recognize my relationship with other’s who think the way I do.  I understand more fully that Jesus was a man who lived 2000 years ago, and yes, he was special, but he was/is not the only person who had that kind of relationship with the divine.  I recognize that he made a sacrifice and Christians around the world will celebrate that in just a few weeks.  And that’s okay.

I hope that you do something special today to reignite your relationship with the Earth and the Elements.  Look for the beginning of something new in your world.  It might be full-out spring where you live and you can enjoy all the spring flowers and new growth.  Or, spring might just be starting and you can only just see the leaf buds.  Perhaps you live in a colder climate, like I do.  We’ll need to look harder for those signs of spring, but they’ll be there.  The melting snow, the mud, the birds singing, maybe a new liter of foxes that their mama is just starting to let out of the den.  All are signs of Spring and a new year.  I’m so appreciative and grateful for that.

Blessed Be!

Facebook & St. Patrick’s Day

Boy, there’s been quite the discussion on Facebook today about St. Patrick, the snakes, the Pagans, and the Catholic Church.

Did St. Patrick drive out snakes?  Are snakes just another way of saying Pagan?   Some people really don’t care – they just want another glass of whiskey!

I have a friend who is certain that she lived in Ireland during this time period.  She has flashbacks of battles, pagans being tortured and burned, and her own death by sword.   She works hard on healing that part of her soul, which is still so troubled.

For me, today is just another day.  A day I honor the still full moon rising just about now.  A day I honor the Goddess and God who have blessed me with so much.  A day I honor my friend who passed a year ago.  Just another day!  A day to renew the protective bubble around my house.  A day to walk the dogs and pet the cat and ooze my love into all of them. A day to count my blessings in my numerous friends who think like I do.

Blessings and abundance to all of you!

Review of the book – Grimoire of a Kitchen Witch

I’ve just finished reading  Grimoire of a Kitchen Witch: An Essential Guide to Witchcraft by Rachel Patterson, and I am fascinated by all that I learned and am learning!

Grimoire of a Kitchen Witch

It was published in 2013 and it covers so many different things!  I can tell that this book will be one of my dog-eared reference books.  I especially liked the chapters on animal totems, guides, faeries and spirits.  I have always been aware that they are there, but was never sure how to contact them – or even IF I should contact them!

This weekend, like many of you, I’ll be celebrating the Full Moon.  This book has given me wonderful ideas on how the ritual should unfold and what kinds of spells we should perform in our circle.

I hope that you find this book helpful too.

Today, I totally did not take my own advice and am really stressed out.  I volunteered for an event with a whole lot of people.  I was in a crowd control position.  Not all of these people  were nice and I let that affect me.

Someone please remind me next time to draw a protective bubble around myself beforehand.

I’m taking the time now to ground and ask my guides to heal me and draw out the stress.

Mercury going direct

Who else is feeling more clarity of mind and more productive days now that Mercury has gone direct?  Woooo hooooo!!

To me Mercury Retrograde feels like this Rumi poem:

Who Makes These Changes?
I shoot an arrow right.
It lands left.
I ride after a deer and find myself
chased by a hog.
I plot to get what I want
and end up in prison.
I dig pits to trap others
and I fall in.
I should be suspicious
of what I want.

Now, with Mars going retrograde, I’m not sure what to think. I guess I’ll just keep on seeing life and other people thru a filter of love and acceptance.

Bright blessings to you all!

Grounding and Protection

Nearly every day I ask my guides and angels to protect me during the day. I can tell on the days that I forget!  Some days I ask them to be a filter – to let only love in to me and only love out from me.

Here’s what I do:

First I ground.  I imagine roots growing out of the soles of my feet towards the center of the earth.  If I’m not outside, I envision the roots breaking through the floor and the foundation of the building I’m in.  I feel the roots push through the rock and the water tables until it reaches the glowing center.  I envision gemstones there that my roots wrap themselves around.  I generally only see rubies, but you may see other gemstones or even other objects!

Once I feel grounded, I use those roots as a straw to suck the strength of Mother Earth into me with each inhalation.  When I exhale, I picture the negative things being taken from me and dissipating into the Earth.  (I think of my negative energy as soapy water going down through the gravel and granite until it reaches the water table, pure and clean again.)  I thank the Earth for filtering my negativity into the and strong Earth energy again.

Then, I connect to the Divine.  I picture a gold and silver ladder reaching down towards me from the heavens.  I climb the ladder until I feel connected to the stars and galaxies way above me.  Once I feel that connection, I ask the Divine to connect to the Earth through me, like a giant plug being connected, somewhere in my solar plexus area.  What an amazing feeling that is!

Once I feel connected, I ask my Spirit Guides and Angels to protect me during the day.  If there is anything specific I’m concerned about, I ask help for that as well.  If I’m feeling particularly negative, I ask for the “love filter”.

When I ask for protection, and feel that it has been granted, I feel or envision a bluish bubble around me.  It protects me all day long.

If I need to be uninterrupted, I ask for an invisibility bubble.  It helps to keep people from asking me questions or starting conversations.

How do you protect yourself?
